Who we are…
The International Institute for Prehistoric Research of Cantabria is a mixed academic research institute, shared ownership with the Government of Cantabria, the University of Cantabria, and Santander Universities. Moreover is an associated CSIC unit (Institució Milà y Fontanals, Barcelona).
Is located in the Interfacultativo building, of the University of Cantabria, into the universitary campus. We have specific spaces for researchers and personal, and some laboratories with equipments and references collections, like microscopy and photography, procesado of archaeological material and the bioarchaeology lab.
Why is created?
The IIIPC was founded in 2004, from a research group from de Historic Science department of the University of Cantabria, with the following goals:
- Group and join a researcher group that work about different topics related to Prehistory.
- Increase the chance of funding
- Attract researchers from different universities and institutions to the IIIPC for developing their works.
The institute is dedicated to prehistoric research, and give technical advice in the field of its competence. Our main researcher lines includes:
- Prehistoric art
- Paleolithic and Mesolithic in SO of Europe
- Origin and development of peasant societies
- Early settlers of American continent
- Prehistoric technology
Actually, the insitute has an important number of members, with contract and asociated staff to the institution. The group is composed of permanent researchers, postdoctoral Ramón y Cajal, Juan de la Cierva and Marie Curie IF, phd students (result of national announcements and university fellow) tecnichal staff
Actualmente el Instituto cuenta con un número importante de miembros, entre personal contratado y asociado a la institución. Investigadores en plantilla, postdoctorales Ramón y Cajal, Juan de la Cierva, Marie Curie IF, además de contratados predoctorales (resultado de convocatorias nacionales y de la UC), personal técnico I+D del MINECO, contratados por proyectos y personal administrativo conforman un nutrido grupo en el que cerca del 50% son jóvenes investigadores.
